Hi, everyone! Now that we've had so much fun ;) discussing about the Definition of Phobia, I think it's the time for us to move on and get more familiar with our topic.
-> What Are the Types of Phobia?
Based on what I've read mostly from here:
http://psychology.about.com/od/phobias/f/dis_phobiadef.htm
and here:
http://www.phobia-fear-release.com/phobia-list.html
Phobia can be classified into three main categories:
A. Social Phobias - fear of social situations.
B. Agoraphobia - fear of being trapped in an inescapable place or situation.
C. Specific phobias - fear of a specific object (such as snakes).
Specific Phobia has four major types:
1. The natural environment—fear of lightening, water, storms, etc.
2. Animal—fear of snakes, rodents, spiders, etc.
3. Medical—fear of seeing blood, receiving injections, visiting a doctor, etc.
4. Situational—fear of bridges, leaving the home, driving, etc.
And from here, we could go to several pages, long-list of phobia , alphabetically in order :), some of which you could never dream of hearing!
For example, this is what I found. Phalacrophobia. It means 'fear of becoming bald'. Well, at least many people can relate to that, since most of us can't escape from losing hair the older we become :).
But wait until you hear this one. Peladophobia. Guess what it means...
I'll give you ten seconds................. time!
It's 'fear of bald people'.
Hehe..
So, what do you have to say about this? Have you came across some unheard of phobias before? Hopefully you can share with us here. I hope we can have a good discussion about this, and hoping to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Norliza Baharom

Btw, i am more attracted to specific phobias which i think is ridiculous sometimes but its true...gosh!! there are so many weird and odd phobias listed in on the net (link given)...
for example, it would be good thing for man who married woman suffers Aurophobia..hehe..this is because, they have this "Fear of gold". haha..nice huh?
cant imagine even a simple tiny little things can cause a phobia to mankind...

Hey guys, gladly that here comes the 2nd post about our topic. Hehe. Well, I am really anticipated about this phobia thingy.
Nice link you got there kak Liza, comes with loads types of phobias! And just like what Farah said, most of it are where we never heard about it.
It's funny to read Kak Liza's post about fear of becoming bald (Phalacrophobia) and fear of bald people (Peladophobia) where two of it have different meaning but basically focus on one thing, BALD. :D
I also opened the link given, and take a look at the long-list of types of phobia and I found an interesting one which is;
"Cathisophobia - Fear of sitting"
LOL. Does that mean the people that suffer from this Cathisophobia only stand and lay all over the times? Poor them.
Btw, I hope that all of this phobias thing didn't get me into a phobia. Which is; "Phobia of people with phobias". Hehe.

Haloo everyone!
Never cross my mind that phobia can be as interesting as this. Lots Of them!!! Wargggh!!
Among all of the phobias, i most likely intersted with the Hydrophobia- fear of water. Hehehe.
Can you imagine life without water??!! You gotta be kidding me..
How one can survive with the fear of water? I just cant stop wondering.
I think i would like to meet one of them and ask what is the feeling..
How about Somniphobia? Fear of sleeping. People, sleeping suppose to be rileksing. The only desire we have after a long tiring day is SLEEPING!! Then what happen to the people who fear it.. Ow NO.. Is it they think that they might not be able to wake up again after that?? They and God know... T_T
Btw, i have a story about my childhood so called phobia. But i guess i'll share it in the next comment. Have to go la. Got qiuz after this. HoHo. Tata. XOXO.

hehe.
Veronica have lots of her childhood story about phobia.
we are all waiting for your story then! :D
I agree too with Veronica about Somniphobia - fear of sleeping. Does the people that suffer from that phobia are awake 24hours a day without any sleep?? Sounds impossible but it may be true then. But I think they don't need to worry much since there i a way in curing phobia :)
I think I'll stop for now. Need to study for tomorrow's quiz. Got so many quizzes for this week.
p/s: Is there any chances on people getting phobia on quizzes? Well, I think that person must be ME then :p

Gosh! how can phobia be so ridiculous like that...everyone need to sleep in their life....i wonder it can be that odd?? does anybody have the answer....well...surprisingly,it happens to certain people....
"Catoptrophobia" -fear of mirror
"Ecophobia"- fear of home..
interesting enough? there is a saying that "nothing like home" which means there are never other places that will gives u feel of conformity rather than your home..
no matter how your home looks like...but if there is so-called phobia that is fear of home, so how about people who suffer from it? pitiful right? hehe.....loads of interesting phobia to be discover in this blog...so, stay tuned guys...huhu..
p/s: i wonder how a woman can fear the mirror because i thought its our best buddy!! :))

Hehe. Hi, guys, miss you all :).
Social phobias is becoming more and more familiar to us, isn't it? Some people might develop their social phobias since they were little. For example; growing up with over-protective parents would make them lack of social skills, and they end up becoming more and more reserved while they grow up, to the point that they developed into having certain social phobias.
On the other hand, Agoraphobia and Specific phobia can seem to be unreasonable sometimes. Like Veron had said, fear of water and fear of sleeping and Farah introduced us to fear of mirror and fear of home, hehe- it might sound ridiculous for us. But everything happens for a reason. We cannot know for sure how different things effect different people differently. People have different history. So, I think the list of phobias will keep on getting longer and longer. What do you think, guys? :).
Though when it comes to quizzes, I think I'll join Chah's club :)
Till then,
Norliza

go veron...we`r waiting 4 u..heheheh
Hei guys..
Sori for delaying my story for quite sometime. It's pretty difficult for me to access the internet plus technical problem. Huhu.
Let go straight to the point, of course about my so called childhood phobia. Hehe.
When I was about 6 or 7, i always sit with my mother infront of the television (black and white for sure. huhu). The clock showed 8pm. Time for the evening news. The announcers ( do we call them like that?)appeared on the television. All of a sudden i throw myself onto my mother.
Why? Because i was afraid of the male announcer. He is a Singh an wearing turban. Whenever i hear the the starting music of the evening news, i close my eyes and ask my mum who is the male announcer. If it him, i didn't open my eye or i went somewhre else. If not him, i stay with my mother to watch the news.
When i recall that fear of mind, i always smile and think " why on earth i was afraid of the Singh with turban?". Hehe.
I don't remember precisly when my fear gone. But it wasn't for long. hihi.
So guys, what do we call that kind of fear??? Hohoho.
Guess we never out of strange and odd things in our life.. Well, that makes our life colourful, isn't it??
Luv xoxo

haha, what an interesting type of phobia you have Veron. So, what should we call on phobia of Singh people wearing turban then? The new types of phobia will come out soon just for you Veronica.
haha :p
If I recall my childhood memories, I don't think I am afraid or phobia. Hehe.
Oh well, I just remember about one of my friend back at college where I took my diploma. What's the best is, she is totally freaking out of a BALLOON! And the types of phobia suite her is Globophobia. Hehe.
When I asked her why she is so afraid of balloon, she said that during her childhood there was a time where the balloon popped in front of her face while she was trying to take it. And from that time, she can't get near into any balloons or else she will scream out loud till death. Hehe.
Thanks to my friend for her experience of Globophobia :D
Best Wishes,
