"Are You Afraid Of The Dark??"
**********************************************************************************
Hello there...well, for our second entry today,we are not going to discuss about what dark and all but we would like to brief a bit about our topic which is Phobia..Let us start with its definition....lets check it out :)
According to the American Psychiatric Association, a phobia is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. In most cases, the phobia involves a sense of endangerment or a fear of harm.
For example, people suffering from agoraphobia fear being trapped in an inescapable place or situation.
By definition, phobias are IRRATIONAL, meaning that they inappropriately interfere with your everyday life or daily routine.
For example, if your fear of heights prevents you from crossing a bridge to get to work, that fear is considered irrational. If your fears keep you from enjoying life or even preoccupy your thinking so that you are unable to work, sleep, or do the things you wish to do, then it is irrational.
Thus, there are several ways of diagnosing phobias disorder is that the fear must be excessive and disproportionate to the situation. For example; most people who fear heights would not avoid visiting a friend who lived on the top floor of a tall building; however a person with a phobia of heights would. Fear alone does not distinguish a phobia – both fear and avoidance must be evident. (Lefton, L. A., 1997)
Besides, common symptoms that is associated with phobias include diziness, breathlessness, nausea and a sense of unreality.
As far as we concerned, this is the medical definition of phobia according to the American Psychiatric Association. We seek for responses from all of you to define phobias based on your understanding and own perceptions.

Or maybe you guys out there have an experience of yours or people close to you to share? Mind to respond this post...Your cooperation is highly appreciated.. Thank you... :)
Yours Faithfully,

Hi...personally i think phobia is an inner problem of someone which is hard to overcome as it can be major or minor distraction in one`s life...As it takes all their guts to prevent their phobia on something, they should realize that not everyone will succeed doing so...Next, I also think that most of these phobias occur naturally since early childhood or based on previous bad experience on something....Based on the meaning define by American Psychiatric Association, I do believe that it could be also an irrational an excessive fear towards an object and situation...till then, i`ll re post my next comment as I would like to share a friend of mine experience`s about her phobia....see ya
hee, forgot to introduce myself..

Well, as for me i can say that phobia is where certain people are afraid of it or doing it.
I totally agree with Farah where she said that phobia is an inner problem of someone. The cause may be varies, maybe because of their past memory that frightens them.
But for sure, every things happen have its own solution. Therefore, we will come out with the solution of phobias soon :)

Yoohoo.. hehe. Hi, I'm Norliza, one of the four bloggers in this "Phobia" discussion.
Luckily, I don't have any phobia yet. At least, not one that I know of.
I AM afraid of lizard, but I think it's not that serious.
Anyway, to have a phobia in your life would make life much more difficult. I think some people have acceptable reasons for their phobia. For example, there are increased number of people who have phobia of taking a flight since the tragedy of 9/11. There are also people who have phobia for no distinct causes, like fear of wearing a blue dress, :).
Well, I think I have to go for now. But I'll be back with more piece of mind, after I have my breakfast :).
Just want my friends up there (Chah, Farah, and Veron) to know that I love them so much, and hope they don't have any kind of phobia hehe. See you, guys.
hello miss foo and everyone...for my 2nd comment, and as i promised i would share an experience of my friend towards his "hemophobia"...
Well a "hemophobia" is also known as an extreme irrational fear of blood (according to wikipedia)..I just found out about this when we were passing by the blood drive campaign at our faulty recently..
It started when he`s telling my friend and me that he felt dizzy after looking at the blood..at first, we think that it is common to feel scared about it but after that, when asked for lunch..he refused..he said he lost his appetite due to the incident..
We both seem to be speechless when he told us his experience behind this "hemophobia" thingy..
He was 11 when his mother miscarriage and he accidentally saw the tragic incident with lots of blood everywhere..since that, he get this phobia of blood until he admitted that he is such a Blood Fear!!...
As a whole, what i can conclude is that as we discussed in the entry..a fear of something might be inborn phenomenon of an individual or it comes from certain experiences that they think scary enough to be fear for lifetime...
Like stated in http://www.phobia-fear-release.com/blood-phobia.html, ---> Blood phobia is an intense fear of something that poses little or no actual danger. While adults with blood phobia realize that these fears are irrational, they often find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety...
But personally i think, no matter how bad the condition of phobia among people, there should have a way out...no to eliminate it forever as it may sounds ridiculous, but to at least control the phobia so that it wont affect others especially those who suffer themselves...
I think that's all for now, will get back with the discussion and new entry soon...take care and have a nice day everyone..
P/S:nice thoughts of you, kak liza...hehe..

kekeke. luckily there's none of the members got phobia. well, we still didn't get Veronica's opinion or maybe her experience in dealing with phobia. That's okay, we will wait for you :D
And yes, i do agree with kak liza which she wrote that having phobia would make life much more difficult. There will be exceptional for them in dealing with daily life. The perfect example here would be Farah's friend that got "Hemophobia", or phobia of seeing blood. What about if he accidentally cut himself? Well, he might get dizzy or faint and obviously he also did not have any chance to go on a blood donation.
However as I said on the 1st comment, this phobia thing can be cured so no worries for phobia peoples out there ;)
Till then,

Hye guyz.. I wanted to say a lot but it seems that you have post it for me. Kehkeh.. But i'll give a few point on this "Phobia" thing.
For me, the occurance of phobia depens on one's mentality. Of course tragedies and experiences do contribute a lot but it's all about how you manage your fear.
For example, i once nearly got drown when i was about 10 or 11. I went to a mini water fall with my friends without my parents permission (well, i was quite a naughty girl. heheh.). To make it short, we did our activities and finally it come to the swimming part. I wasnt good at swimming that time and i nearly lose my life if not for my friend.
But after that tragic incident, i stil do swimming until now.So it wasn't that hard to get rid of the fear. May be it only possible to people who dare to take risk in life. =D
However, i do belive that it's not easy to be free from phobia and they need special treatment for that.
Well guys, is there any phobia generated from our gen? heheh. Just wondering...
To all my friends with phobia out there, i encourage you to get on top of your phobia and not your phobia being on top of you. We are here to support you!! Till then.
O ya, my folks never know about the incident. Hehe.^_^

Lucky that you still have a chance to breathe until today Veronica, or else of course we did not know a person named Veronica at all. Hehe :p
Well, I am quite interested with one of Veronica's question which is:
"Well guys, is there any phobia generated from our gen?"
So then i tried to search on Google to find the answer and for your information, the answer is YES. There are genetic factors associated to phobias. You guys can go check out this link:
http://phobias.about.com/od/research/a/geneticsphobias.htm
It says that the researchers had found that first-degree of relatives of someone suffering from a phobia are approximately three times to have a phobia too.
Wow, before this i had no ideas that genetic is also one of the cause of phobia. Thanks to Veronica who came out with the good question :D

"A phobia can be explained as something a person fears to the point that they have to change how they behave".
reference: http://www.seekwellness.com/conditions/mental/phobia.htm
Phobia can also involve fear of being embarrased, looked at, or made fun of in social or work situations.
We can see from there that without treatment, phobias can last many years and affect a person's career, relationship, and daily life activities.
So for those out there who know that they're having this problem, just reach out and get help, because there IS a cure to phobia. :)
Sincerely,
Norliza Baharom
